  • • Fire chemistry and physics
  • • Fire dynamics
  • • Detection and suppression system
  • • Evacuation and human behavior
  • • Fire safety design & management
  • • Assessment of fire risk
  • • Fire investigation
  • • Fire safety legislation
  • • Rescue and EMS
  • • Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) for fire protection
  • • Additional fields related to fire safety

Submissions from other fields of fire science and engineering, and from other areas within the fields above, are welcome. Papers are assessed only with regard to quality and their potential for fundamental and generic contribution to fire science and technology.

PUBLICATION TYPES

Full-length manuscripts should be complete and authoritative accounts of work which have special significance, general interest and which are presented clearly and concisely. The types of manuscript are classified into research paper and technical paper. The manuscript has not been published elsewhere, and should be original.

Research paper: This is full-length manuscript of value and interest to engineers. It should contribute to the experiment, theoretical approach or analysis of engineering works. Also it must be original, clear and error-free, and the description and content must be logically organized.

Technical paper: This focuses on new technologies, processes and policies related to fire safety from a practical point of view.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

All manuscripts should be submitted via e-submission system available from: http://kyobo127.medone.co.kr/html/. Once you have logged into your account, the online system will lead you through the submission process in a step-by-step process. After entering all of the checklist items and information on the authors, manuscript title, abstract, keywords, and other details, you will be prompted to upload your files. Authors are requested to follow these introductions carefully to ensure that the review and publication of the article are swift and efficient. Manuscript will be returned to the authors if they are not presented according to these instructions.

Author eligibility: In principle, those who submit papers to this society should be members of the society. However, anyone who has been specially approved by the editorial board may submit a paper.

Submission date: Note that it is not possible to change the authors after submission. The date of submission will be the date submitted to the online submission system. The author(s) should submit the changed manuscript and the response within one month after the informing of reviewers’ comments. If the author(s) pass(es) this period, the editorial board can cancel the that manuscript.

Responsibility and Copyright: The author is responsible for the published paper. The corresponding author is required to sign an Author’s check list and a Copyright transfer agreement on behalf of all authors during the submission process. The forms of Author’s check list and Copyright transfer agreement can be found via the e-submission system.

Creative Commons Attribution License: This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/) which permits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

Request of Reexamination: In principle, the request by author to reexamine a rejected manuscript shall not be allowed.

Please contact the editorial office if you have difficulty in submitting a manuscript.

PUBLICATION CHARGE

There are no charges for submission and publication in IJFSE. For articles published online, electronic PDF files such as journal cover, table of contents and paper are provided free of charge to authors.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Prior review process: Science Editing reviews all manuscripts received. A manuscript is first reviewed for its format and adherence to the aims and scope of the journal. If the manuscript meets these two criteria, it is checked for plagiarism or duplicate publication with Similarity Check (https://crosscheck.ithenticate.com).

Double-blind peer review: After confirming its result, it is dispatched to two peer reviewers in the field with relevant knowledge by the editor-in-chief or the editors. Then the authors’ names and affiliations are removed during peer review (double-blind peer review). Additional reviewer may be appointed at the editor's discretion. The reviewers are appointed in closed condition.

Acceptance criteria: The acceptance criteria for all papers are based on the quality and originality of the research including scientific and practical significance. Acceptance of the manuscript is decided based on the recommended decision of the reviewers.

Type of review result: Types of review result can be classified by “accepted”, “rejected”, “require minor revision” and “require major revision”. In principle, the manuscript that requires minor revision must be reviewed by the editor after reflecting he comments of the reviewers and can be published. If it is difficult for the editor to decide, it is decided by the editorial board. The manuscript that requires major revision must be reviewed by the reviewer again after reflecting the comments of the reviewers. However, the judgement of re-review after revision is limited to twice.

Review period: An initial decision will normally be made within two weeks or a week of receipt of a manuscript according to general or urgent review process. The reviewers’ comments are sent to the corresponding author by e-mail within a week. The contents of the review result shall be notified to the authors only and not disclosed. When a reviewer make a decision that rejects for acceptance, reviewer has to provide sufficient comments about decision. The manuscript determined as “require minor revision” and “accepted” by two or more editors including reviewers shall be published.

Maximum revision period: The corresponding author must indicate the alterations that have been made in response to the reviewers’ comments item by item. Failure to resubmit the revised manuscript within 4 weeks of the editorial decision is regarded as a withdrawal. The editor-in-chief may issue a certificate of expected publication for articles which have been determined to be published.

Peer review process for handling submissions from editors, employees, or members of the editorial board: All manuscripts from editors, employees, or members of the editorial board are processed same to other unsolicited manuscripts. During the review process, submitters will not engage in the selection of reviewers and decision process. Editors will not handle their own manuscripts although they are commissioned ones.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

Accepted File Format
When preparing manuscripts in Microsoft Word, the IJFSE Microsoft Word template file must be used. The total amount of data for all files must not exceed 120 MB. If this is a problem, please contact the Editorial Office kifse@hanmail.net.

General formatting
Manuscripts of the original paper should be prepared using the manuscript templates provided by the e-submission system and not be exceed 20 pages. A manuscript should in general be organized in the following order: title, name(s) of author(s) and his/her(their) complete affiliation(s), abstracts, keywords, introduction, main body of paper including figures and tables, conclusions, acknowledgements, reference and appendices. Manuscript must be written by English.

Essential title page information

  • · Title: The title should describe the purpose of the research and the main resutls.
